Hi foodies, I hope you are all looking forward to the festive season as much as I am. I think we could all do with a break considering how eventful this year was.
I recently spent an afternoon with my niece and nephew at the beach in Milnerton. After realizing that it was too cold outside for a long stroll on the beach we went for lunch at one of the nearby restaurants, Ilha Restaurant & Bar. We decided on this one because we could tell that it was buzzing as we approached it. The patrons were feasting on their meals while their eyes were glued to the screen - rugby - with chants and screams every few minutes.
Ilha Restaurant & Bar is located at Milnerton lagoon beach - you can get off at the Woodbridge MyCiti bus stop to avoid worrying about parking. I could tell that patrons were locals, so you can always count on their being a buzzing atmosphere.
Food: The food was standard, "good" at most. I recall that each of us ordered something different from the others. My niece ordered a chicken strips basket (it was gigantic), my nephew chose a ribs basket, boyfriend had a rack of ribs and I copied his order after seeing the chicken wrap I had initially ordered. To be honest, the portions were big enough to share and so the price was justified. The ribs fell off the bone and was tasty and tender.
The reason for changing my order was because the wrap looked bland, and I wanted something spicy. I suppose you could say that I got my something spicy when I chose the chili poppers as a starter. Although the mains were average, the chili poppers were of the best I have ever had! It was so creamy on the inside, stuffed with cheese and cubed bacon, yummy!
We also went with different options for drinks. Jam jars, Bubblegum shakes, juice and beer were our choices and the drinks did not disappoint at all. They weer chilled perfectly, and the quantity was value for money.
We had ice-cream cones to go, the ice-cream made us happy, straight out of a tub though, but the cone was stale. I suppose, not too many people orders ice-cream.
Service: Despite it being so busy, we did not wait long to be served and the wait for the food was not too long either. I was pleased that the waiter had knowledge of the allergens in the food, and could advise whether there was tartrazine in the juice. He was friendly, and more than willing accommodate our requests - like the one where I asked for a literal doggie bag (for the bones).
Decor: There was nothing fancy about the decor, it had typical harbour eatery decor. This included picnic style tables and plastic table cloths.
Overall: Ilha Restaurant & Bar gets a 6/10 from me, I am definitely visiting again for those chili poppers and to quench my thirst with a cranberry jam jar!
Until we eat again (haha) X.O Ivy
